Description

Roasted Cabbage Steaks are a simple, flavorful side dish featuring thick slices of cabbage seasoned with olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, and salt, then roasted to crispy perfection. This recipe is perfect for a healthy, vegan-friendly option that brings out the natural sweetness and texture of cabbage through the roasting process.

Ingredients

Scale

Vegetables

  • 2 small cabbage heads

Seasonings and Oil

  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for roasting the cabbage steaks.
  2. Prepare the cabbage steaks: Remove the stems from the cabbage heads and cut each head into four thick steaks, about ¾ to 1 inch thick.
  3. Arrange on baking sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, then place the cabbage steaks on it, making sure to leave space between each piece for even roasting.
  4. Season the steaks: Brush both sides of each cabbage steak with olive oil. Then season generously with salt, garlic powder, and paprika to enhance the flavor.
  5. Roast the cabbage: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and roast the cabbage steaks for about 25 minutes until the edges are crispy and the centers are tender.

Notes

  • You can adjust the seasoning amounts to suit your taste preference.
  • For extra crispiness, flip the cabbage steaks halfway through roasting.
  • Use a sharp knife to slice the cabbage steaks cleanly to prevent them from falling apart.
  • This dish pairs well with grilled proteins or can be served as a vegan main.
