Ingredients
Scale
Spinach Dip
- 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Dough
- 2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
Topping
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Optional: sesame seeds or grated Parmesan for topping
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
- Make Spinach Dip Filling: In a medium bowl, thoroughly mix the cream cheese, sour cream, Parmesan, mozzarella, thawed and drained spinach, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until smooth and well combined. Set aside to let flavors meld.
- Form Bottom Dough Layer: Roll out one can of crescent roll dough directly onto the prepared baking sheet. Pinch the seams together to create a single, solid sheet of dough that will act as the base layer.
- Spread Filling: Evenly spread the prepared spinach dip mixture over the rolled-out dough, leaving about a 1/2-inch border around the edges to help seal the top layer.
- Add Top Dough Layer: Roll out the second can of crescent roll dough and carefully place it on top of the spinach filling, gently pressing down to seal the edges and encase the filling completely.
- Shape into Christmas Tree: Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the stacked dough into a large triangle shape that looks like a Christmas tree. Save any extra dough scraps to use as tree decorations if desired.
- Create Breadstick Branches: From the base of the triangle, make horizontal cuts along both sides, leaving the middle 1-inch section uncut to serve as the “trunk.” Twist each of these cut slices outward to form festive breadstick branches.
- Apply Egg Wash and Toppings: Brush the entire shaped bread tree with the beaten egg to achieve a golden, glossy finish when baked. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or grated Parmesan if you want extra flavor and decorative sparkle.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes until the bread is puffed, golden brown, and cooked through.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for about 5 minutes before slicing and serving as a fun and festive appetizer.
Notes
- Ensure spinach is well-drained to avoid soggy dough.
- You can use fresh spinach instead of frozen, but cook and drain it thoroughly before use.
- Feel free to add other herbs or spices like dill or red pepper flakes for extra flavor.
- Serve with marinara or ranch dipping sauce for added taste.
- Leftover breadsticks can be wrapped tightly and stored at room temperature for up to 1 day or refrigerated for 2-3 days.
