Description

Baked Nutella Bombs are soft, fluffy yeast dough balls filled with rich, creamy Nutella. These delightful treats are perfect as a breakfast indulgence or a sweet snack, featuring a golden crust dusted with powdered sugar. Made from scratch using simple ingredients and baked to perfection, they offer a warm, gooey center that Nutella lovers will adore.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 100°F)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg

Filling and Finishing

  • 1/2 cup Nutella (chilled slightly)
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: Warm the milk to about 100°F. Add sugar and sprinkle in the instant yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients and Wet Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter and egg, then pour this into the yeast mixture.
  3. Combine and Knead Dough: Mix the wet and dry ingredients until a dough forms. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Shape and Fill: Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Flatten each piece, place 1 tablespoon of slightly chilled Nutella in the center, then pinch the edges firmly to seal the filling inside.
  6. Second Rise: Place the filled dough balls seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let rise for 30–45 minutes until puffy.
  7. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the Nutella Bombs for 15–18 minutes or until they turn golden brown on top.
  8. Cool and Dust: Allow the baked bombs to cool slightly on a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm or at room temperature for the best gooey experience.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
  • Chilling Nutella slightly makes it easier to handle and keeps it from leaking during baking.
  • You can store uneaten Nutella Bombs in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for longer freshness.
  • Reheat gently in the oven or microwave before serving to enjoy the soft texture and melty filling.
  • For an extra touch, sprinkle with powdered sugar just before serving.
